some stories

I've been lost in the real world.. A few weeks ago when it was still warm like Summer I took Julia and Fiona, their Mother, and each a small friend, to Moab. It was Fiona's birthday wish to do that. Julia and her friend spent a whole day building a drum set, composing songs and playing them. They collected flat stones for the drums. Each stone had a name. One was Billy Bob. When they composed songs, they wrote out each stone- drum name to be played and how many beats to play. They wrote several song/rhythms and practiced them for a final performance. A whole day of sticks and stones.
I have a rustic outhouse. We hiked across the canyon to the old almost abandoned homestead ranch on the far mesa. There is an outhouse on the ranch set exposed to the wind between the barns and silos. It had always been tipped over lying on it's back. This time it was upright and repaired. Fiona and her friend wanted/needed to try it out. It must have been designed for ranch hand men, not little girls. When they peed it dribbled out the front and onto the floor. They told me I had a way better outhouse. These are girls who want for nothing with each a private bath and maid to pick up their clothes and make their beds.
And last week I went live on Lynette's radio show at KDNK with Jessa a singer song writer. We wanted to help with the fund raising week. Jessa played and sang a few songs live and was wonderfully articulate in promoting this local gem of a radio station. When it was my turn I said that (truthfully) I don't listen much to KDNK because I prefer Classical music. I pledge money to KDNK because I think it is a such an integral part of the community and I support that. I said live on air. "So hey everyone out there who doesn't listen to KDNK call in now and pledge your support."
Also live, there were Lynette and Jessa laughing and telling me how can they call when they aren't listening? Check out Lynette's show Audio Pilot or any other show or listen to Democracy Now and maybe some of you out there can call or on-line in a pledge it's $20. for a pet membership. It is a great station.
A few days ago Dawn and I climbed Mt Sopris. It is a standing alone 12,950 peak with a mile of steep scree below the summit. It was windy and bitter cold and wonderful. A bit of snow flurried down but no thunder to turn us back. We held that gleeful feeling for hours the kind of feeling that is usually fleeting.
The mountains are white the kind that may just stay and build up deep through the winter.
Oh wait there was something else back during the Moab time. After the girls left I was in town at the working place of my mountain neighbors. They were readying up to get the winter hay for their two horses only they had no help and the bales were still in the field. I stuck around while they rounded up one more woman and a third trailer. There were then three women three trucks and three trailers. I got to drive the french fry grease powered one. The hay was twenty miles out of town. None of the trailers had lights or liscense plates. We took turns so smooth/easy womanlike driving and bucking hay bales and then there were three loaded trailers, a hundred bales, and we drank beer and the sun was setting and we drove slow back to Moab along the river with each a full bag of just picked apples as well and the police drove by but never stopped.

oh there you are!!! adam is worried that I won't be able to move on thursday if I go hiking with you again on wednesday. I told him it was going to be an easy hike this time. he was skeptical.
speaking of skeptical. I went to see religulous tonight without you. I went all alone right after work, but I'll go again if you want to go together. it's playing at the isis.
Yes I'll go any time you want. I was looking on the map and we culd go to Taylor Lake have you been there? Look past Markley Hut near Ashcroft.
yes. ok. I'll be at yoga with Sarah from 6:45 to 7:45 in aspen tonight and then I think I'll go catch the end of the debate at the belly up. they're puttng it on the big screen and i think it will be interesting to see what mix of people show up for that and maybe have some conversation afterward. just call or text me about the time to meet tomorrow morning and I'll be there and be ready.
