What is your idea of heaven?

I can't imagine a place without all the things we find bad without hungers and vices and sicknesses and biting cold and searing heat and everything eventually dying, without the trying and overcoming and mistakes. We live in such an incredible world I imagine a heaven scattered about in our world like little gifts we can pluck and find joy in every day and not so much as to cause a flood or avalanche.

I imagine heaven as a place where anything is possible, if your wish is to be with friends and family sitting around a table filled with comfort foods, you are there. If solitude is what you crave then it is a favorite beach or a treelined path in the woods or whatever you can imagine, but most of all I see it as the ultimate community of diverse souls coming together in loving kindness.

How beautifully, beautifully said.

I don’t have any idea of heaven but I agree with you that the “mistakes” and the trying and overcoming are essential for my idea of what makes life good. I like effort and learning and figuring things out. I don’t know about that heaven stuff, that isn’t in my domain.

I love how often the disasters that , if we had control over, we would not “allow” are the things that lead us to great delights and adventures or just a deeper understanding we might have missed. I like to leave room in my days for those upsetting surprises. The is a new rule at work that Gnomi is not allowed so she spends the day in the car I take her for a ski mid day if I have time. Today was too busy. After I closed up the Nordic Center in the cold (it was ten below this morning) and dark night, I put on my skis so Gnomi could get a good run in before we drove home. I was cold and tired and especially hungry but the skiing was invigorating and Gnomi was loving it too so we went on and on and then I heard through the darkness and quiet the sound of music. I skied toward the sound and there from a lit house was coming an old scratchy recording of Italian Opera across the snowy landscape. I skied back and forth within hearing distance. It was the best part of the day.. of the week!

Wow, skiing back and forth, in and out of a scratch Italian Opera……..
How spectacular a perspective is that… “Farland and Gnomi skied and ran in and out of an Italian Opera.”  How can these amazing things be happening all around us and usually we don’t quite notice them!
Rosie is wanting a ski right now, but alas, i have been into paper work, and need to sleep and later work tonight….. But, well, er, maybe she’s right…
love Jane

Rosie is right! Yesterday I forced myself to not go out into the wilds on my skis to take a day of mundane things. Now we are off into that white world again hoorah!
